The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a peacekeeping operation established in July 2010, succeeding MONUC. Its mandate includes protecting civilians, humanitarian personnel and human rights defenders under imminent threat of physical violence, while supporting the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in stabilization and peace consolidation.
