Mandate
UNFICYP is the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus, established by Security Council resolution 186 in 1964. It works to prevent renewed fighting, support law and order and help restore normal conditions. Since the 1974 de facto ceasefire, its military, UN Police, civil-affairs and support components supervise ceasefire lines, maintain the buffer zone, address civilian activity and humanitarian needs, and build trust while supporting conditions for a comprehensive settlement.
