Mandate
The International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) was established by the UN General Assembly in 2016 to assist the investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for the most serious crimes under international law committed in Syria since March 2011. It collects, consolidates, preserves and analyses information and evidence, prepares case files and supports competent jurisdictions that meet applicable human-rights and fair-trial standards.
